A CNBC article reports that “Trump (tweeted): Facebook, Twitter, Google are ‘treading on very, very troubled territory and they have to be careful'”
“Trump said in a tweet that Google’s search engine had “rigged” news story search results to show mostly “bad” stories about him and other conservatives. He later criticized Facebook and Twitter.”
“He says Google is prioritizing left-leaning outlets and warns that the situation ‘will be addressed.'”
“The president’s comments come a week before Google, Facebook and Twitter testify before Congress.”
Good! Drag these petty tyrant/liberal censors in front of Congress and let them be grilled for a while. Threaten them with an anti-Trust prosecution. If they continue to politically oppress the Right while promoting liberal causes, perhaps they would like government officials doing oversight and fining them whenever they misbehave.
The Right should file activist lawsuits just like the Left always does. Obama even had the DOJ file activist lawsuits when he was president! Trump should file one against Youtube over Infowars being censored with their anti-Free Speech policies thinly hiding behind their “terms of service” camouflage.
How about making “Free Speech” protected so that “terms of service” rules never infringe on it? If we are serious about having Free Speech in America, shouldn’t that be the law of the land and the law of the Internet?
The federal government has additional power on its side to deal with Big Tech bullies.
While some people may make the argument that these are “private” companies that can do whatever they want; they effectively constitute a monopoly, and there’s a good chance that anti-trust laws will soon be used against them.
There is however another law, the lawyers for Mr. Zuckerberg and Ms. Wojcicki should have warned their bosses about and that’s 18 U.S.C. Section 241 which makes it a crime “If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States…”
Clearly Zuckerberg and Wojcicki conspired together to oppress Mr. Jones’ Right to Free Speech on their social media platforms.
There’s no need to create any new laws here or “an Internet Bill of Rights” (which would likely be a good thing, but could take months to iron out all the details).
There are less than three months to the midterm elections and Trump seriously needs to start defending his allies rather than letting liberal Big Tech bullies break the law and silence more and more people on the Right.
Also, prosecuting Mark Zuckerberg for anything would probably boost Trump’s popularity by about five to ten percent.
