President Trump Rejects ‘Dreamer’ Deal

by James Buchanan

It looks like any deal on DACA is dead for now. Let’s hope Trump listens to his base, and it stays that way because we shouldn’t have to give the Democrats 800,000 Amnestied voters just for the promise that our immigration laws will be enforced in the future.

An article on Yahoo news reports “A group of Republican and Democratic senators has been working for months to craft legislation that would protect 700,000 young adults who were brought into the country illegally as children and later shielded from deportation under a program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.”

“In a series of tweets on Friday, Trump also suggested that momentum toward a deal on maintaining such protection had stalled. ‘The so-called bipartisan DACA deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards,’ he said.”

There’s no reason to make a “deal” with the minority Democrats to get money for the border wall. Building a wall is part of defending the U.S. which is already the president’s job. President Trump could simply order the Army Corps of Engineers, who are already on the federal payroll, to begin building the wall.

Trump may be making some token negotiation on DACA to try to appeal to moderates, who may consider him too harsh. Fortunately, the Dems seem inclined to demand everything under the sun as if Obama were still president.

If the Dems kill any compromise measure with a long list of demands, that’s a big win for the American people and Trump wins his multi-dimensional chess game by letting Democrat arrogance take the blame for the Dreamers being deported.
