An article on Politico reports “Chuck Schumer is warning Mitch McConnell not to include money for a border wall with Mexico in a must-pass government funding bill… the first step in what could turn into a pitched shutdown fight over the Southern wall promoted by President Donald Trump.”
“Led by Senate Minority Leader Schumer, top Senate Democrats are insisting that Majority Leader McConnell avoid demanding either funding for a border wall or another ‘poison pill’ rider such as defunding Planned Parenthood as a condition of funding the government. McConnell will need Schumer to deliver at least eight votes to avert a shutdown by April 28, and Schumer is already suggesting that things could get ugly if Republicans play hardball and try to jam Democrats.”
The Democrats need to remember that they’re the minority party in the House and Senate and a majority of Americans want a border wall and want border laws enforced.
In fact guarding the U.S. border is part of the federal government’s normal responsibilities (although you’d never know that the way Obama ran the government).
Trump already has the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the payroll, and he might as well put them to work building the wall since they seem like the best suited part of the government to do the job.
Well, it looks like Trump may not even have to haggle with militant lunatics like Schumer over the border wall. It seems Senator Ted Cruz has come up with an innovative approach to getting the wall started.
A Breitbart article reports “Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced a bill calling for the use of $14 billion seized from cartel drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman to be used to pay for the President’s border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.”
“’Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border,’ Senator Cruz stated, according to a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas from the senator’s office. ‘Ensuring the safety and security of Texans is one of my top priorities.’”
“The Texas senator said that leveraging criminally forfeited assets from El Chapo and other Mexican cartel members and drug dealers can ‘offset the wall’s cost and make meaningful progress toward achieving President Trump’s stated border security objectives.’”
The wall is going to be built whether the Democrats vote for the funding or not. If the wall is funded with confiscated drug money, then all the better. After all, Trump promised that Mexico will ultimately be paying for the wall, and El Chapo is a Mexican!
